Review of The Thomas Crown Affair (1968) by James S — 17 Feb 2007
Some films ooze style, and the original version of Alan Trustman's The Thomas Crown Affair is no exception. If it were a magazine article, the film would not look out of place in a glossy colour supplement, playing up as it does the glamour and fashion of sixties culture.
It's mixture of bank robbery and love story makes for enticing viewing. Whereas the nineties remake starring Pierce Brosnan as Crown felt like a Bond film without the stunts, the original casts the lead characters as a little colder but much more suggestive.
The ending proves to be a little sudden, but it is easy to get caught up in this non-obtrusive, style-obsessed sparkler of a movie.
