Review of The Thirteenth Floor (1999) by James T — 04 Apr 2006
Critics don't seem to appreciate films that play with the mind. those that create doubt with the viewer about what is real. you know, films where you are constantly saying "huh?" or "what the f-ck?" only if done masterfully like lynch's mulholland drive, is the film appreciated. i, on the other hand, really like these types of films. even a mediocre film (which I believe this is) will get points for going outside the box, making the viewer think, doubt, reflect. this one does this on some level.
The basic story is about a computer simulation creating a fantasy world in which characters can assume the identity of a person in a past era, if only for a couple of hours. as the film moves along, you begin to wonder what is real.
