Review of The Thirteenth Floor (1999) by Alysia V — 12 Jan 2009
This is a pretty decent little movie that probably could have been more noteworthy if it had come out a year earlier. *SPOILER* As it deals with computer simulations of reality with thinking inhabitants that slowly become aware of their surroundings' nature, but came out a little more than two months after 'The Matrix', it may have been doomed from the start.
Though it lacks the innovations in special effects of 'The Matrix', it includes a compelling murder mystery and good, if sometimes overacted, performances by all involved. Overall, I may even like it better than its famous cousin as it delivers a story that is just as interesting and dark, but without all the hard edges of 'The Matrix'.
