Review of The Third Man (1949) by Dustin G — 21 Jul 2011
Fantastic film noir, employing the visual style (shadows, interesting and low angles, rain slicked city streets, inventive shots) that were so gripping and well realized in Odd Man Out. In fact this film has a very similar feel and look to Odd Man Out throughout, but its differences are also pronounced. The main one of course being the near cameo but very effective and inspired appearance of Orson Welles.
A classic film, and rightly so, featuring great performances, amazing writing and directing and a hard edge that refuses to shy away from the tough stuff, The Third Man is, quite simply, all that and a bag of potato chips.
