Review of The Third Man (1949) by Angus H — 05 Oct 2009
Considering how much I love Citizen Kane and how much this film was lauded in comparison, you could say I was a little disappointed. It's a well-made film for sure, but the whole charade felt predictable and kind of uninteresting for me (save for a few key sequences).
Also, the obnoxious soundtrack damn near ruined the film by killing almost any piece of suspense that was present. The performances were pretty good, but nothing noteworthy too far beyond the average noir (and I argue can be found better in other films).
All in all, a decent noir - don't expect the best and maybe you'll be pleasantly surprised.
