Review of The Thing (2011) by Tazio G — 03 Sep 2012
Kate Lloyd: [to Lars] Burn it!
"It's not human. Yet.".
I was actually really looking forward to seeing a prequel for The Thing. Yeah it's really unnecessary, but hey it was going to happen anyways with what Hollywood has done lately. The newly updated remake/prequel plays as a somewhat clever feature. The two brother directors pay some great homage to the original and manage to do a fairly decent job without completely failing. They kept the same extreme violence and gore this time with CGI instead that could be overboard at times. The story is what you expect and pretty predictable and shows what happened at the base from the original. Mary Elizabeth Winstead headlines as a solid lead actor and gives a good performance. Not as likable or awesome as Kurt Russell; works anyways. The rest of the cast comprises of Norwegian knuckleheads who are way more dumb than the original guys. I'm not sure what to really say about this. The original had a lot more horror, paranoia, and intelligence behind it along with better acting. This could have been so much worse. If you're into huge technical advancements and freaky creature designs plus some Winstead, check it out!
