Review of The Thing (2011) by Sj M — 15 Oct 2018
If you like John Carpenter's The Thing you should avoid this disaster of a prequel... Yes all the people who obviously didn't pay attention to Carpenter's film will say the prequel is a good film that it respects and matches events portrayed in the original film when clearly it doesn't, there are inconsistencies with this and Carpenter's 1982 classic makes me wonder if the director of this prequel (Matthijs van Heijningen who claims to be a big fan of Carpenter's film) had Matthijs ever seen the 1982 film more than once, What was the point of going into the detail of showing how a fire axe became embedded in a door at the Norwegian camp in exactly the same position as the 1982 film, when they totally changed other plot points, such as the fact that in the 1982 film the Norwegians used explosives to uncover the alien ship, Macready and co are shown Watching a video of Norwegians planting the explosive charges and the actual explosion also all of the Norwegians are still alive at this point in the video, when now in this prequel the ship is completely covered in ice in a cave until the end of the film,so can anyone explain how that's possible? Don't know what the people who made this prequel were thinking the idiots also replaced all the finished amazing practical creature effects with crappy looking CGI.
