Review of The Thing (2011) by Toh H — 20 Nov 2013

The only thing I really seem to like about this movie is that it pays much respect and tribute to the original. Otherwise, this movie is flat out horrible and flawed in almost every way. This movie may be a prequel, but you could've easily fooled me into thinking that it's a remake.

It hits all the same beats as the original, but nowhere near as effectively. The main characters are simple rehashings of those in the original, the environment is the same, and the title's even the same; It just seems like this movie started out as a remake but eventually just got labeled in as a prequel.

There's no attention to detail, the film is filled with nothing but cheap scares, you never once care about any of the characters and they just seem to be there to die, plot holes, tweaking some critical details from the original, horrible CGI, and the list goes on and on.

A rehash of the original that just absolutely fails to live up to the 1982 masterpiece and isn't even deserving to share the same as it.
