Review of The Thing (2011) by Tristan L — 24 Feb 2014
We start the film with a joke to break the ice, pardon the pun.
It was as if they had writers block, but by all means it was necessary. It is a classic move and it got the movie going.
Then we understand what special effects are involved and we meet the characters.
The characters are a little cliched and predictable, the sexual tension between characters, the pouty expressions and soft tone of voice to create suspense.
So like every film I start of with a 2.5/5 and either move the score up or down. Right in the first twenty minutes its staying put.
As the film goes on, the plot thickens, but not what we already know from the original, or the original remake. So nice effects happen, plenty of jumps and scares, but it doesn't have what Carpenter had.
In my opinion an unecessary remake, unless you wondered what The Thing would look like with todays technology.
A fine Popcorn picture, 3/5.
