Review of The Thing (2011) by Daniel O — 08 Feb 2013

For being a prequal this movie pretty much delivers what is set out to. The only reason I was not blown away was because of the special effects. Dont get me wrong the effects in this film are execellent but, they dont deliver like the original.

That movie didnt have cgi. Everything was made by hand and thats why it worked so well. People actuall put thought into it. They really wanted the "thing" to be as disturbing and grotesque as possible.

I mostly enjoyed the film even though it was not as good as it could have been. There is not much of a rule book when you are writing a prequal, mainly just answer things that were not explained well the first time, and I feel like the writers tried to play it too safe.
