Review of The Thing (1982) by Billy G — 27 May 2017
A thrillingly claustrophobic horror film. This is John Carpenter's masterpiece. A group of scientists trapped at an Antarctic research station find themselves being stalked by a shape-shifting alien.
The practical effects hold up, making me yearn for more horror films that utilize practical effects over CGI. Kurt Russell and Keith David both stand out as a cowboy hat-wearing pilot and an antagonistic mechanic, but the entire cast is made up of memorable characters.
'The Thing' is a chillingly atmospheric film with a wonderfully ambiguous ending that will leave you thinking about it for days.
