Review of The Thing (1982) by Jack S — 26 Dec 2012
John Carpenter - a very talented director and maestro of the genre of horror. He has created such masterpieces as "Halloween". But perhaps the most remarkable of his work was a sci-fi horror film "Something" - adaptation of the novel by John Wood Campbell, and a remake of the 1951 picture.
Now, the team of U.S. research base in Antarctica faced with a strange, creepy alien monster. It lay for many thousands of years under the ice, and now has decided to kill anyone who stands in his way. A very "something" has an incredible ability to kill their prey, and then completely transform it. This keeps the audience in suspense until the final credits. Indeed, from the very beginning is not known which of the scientists has already turned into a monster, and who is still the man. And the appearance of the monster makers have come up with a fantasy. He is full of surprises and changes constantly, depending on the appearance of the victim and thus does not resemble the person. Rob Bottini, a master of special effects, having spent just over $ 1 million of the frenzied frightening stranger, who still looks very mysterious, beautiful and realistic. Which can not afford any 100,000,000th modern blockbuster. In October 2011, was released in theaters prequel of the same name. I will not lie, it has turned out to be not that bad as I thought before the release, and the original creators of it was treated with great respect. But no amount of super-modern computer graphics can replace much more cool animatronic geezer.
"The Thing" - the classic horror, which now must be treated with respect. But the film, however, is still very afraid and keep on their toes. And in spite of his advanced age of 30, he is not at all out of date. And never gets old.
