Review of The Thing (1982) by Magnus G — 04 Oct 2014
The Thing is one of those rare remakes that actually eclipses the original in almost every way. John Carpenter delivers many chilling and delightfully gory moments in this sci-fi shocker filled with surreal imagery and grey characters.
Kurt Russell makes for a very solid leading man and really fits into the anti-hero lead that he's been known for because of Escape from New York. Everything about this film is utterly bleak and pessimistic as depicted through the harsh setting and morally questionable characters but that all makes for one awesome sci-fi horror that is almost on par with the original Alien.
As someone who isn't a big fan of horror, The Thing is a unique masterwork and one of my favourites.
