Review of The Thief of Bagdad (1940) by Mike H — 14 Dec 2008
An interesting old fantasy. Effects may have been great for the time, but they are pretty obvious. Of course, special effects aren't meant to last for 70 years, but when you can see strings, models, and blue edges around everyone, it is not hard to doubt their original believability.
That said, the acting is alright, and the mythology has influenced a great deal of our epics since. For its time, this is a large achievement, and its intrigue holds up to some degree.
