Review of The Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Beginning (2006) by Adam B — 19 Aug 2010
Absolutely gruesome. Think of some of the most disgusting films you've seen and I'd put this right up there with them. It's chilling, disturbing, sickening and doesn't give you a minute to get your bearings before going into the next torture scene.
As a prequel it is obviously trying to explain why this family did what they did, which to be honest I'm not entirely sure about. The scariest part of the Texas chainsaw massacre was that we didn't know why they did it, and it's a true story.
So I don't know, maybe it is a fact that this is why this charming family slaughtered people, but if it's just a theory then I personally don't agree with it. Despite the possible flaw of the story line this is still terrifying.
Leatherface is still as scary as ever, his family are just screwed up (though admittedly I laughed at some of the things the sheriff and 'mama' came out with) and some scenes were just sickening.
I know it's got a lot of stick from some people, but I personally really enjoyed this.
