Review of The Ten Commandments (1956) by Will H — 21 Jun 2011
One of the great examples of old time Hollywood spectacle.
A lot of people seem to dismiss it for varying reasons (it's Christian dogma, the Egyptians are played by whites, disagreement with Heston's politics, etc), and these are reasons I understand and agree with but that does not take away from the movie. And during much of the film the actual biblical story seems to get lost as the film delves into things not covered by the Bible--which is probably one of the saving graces of this film as it tones down what would otherwise alienate a number of people, myself included.
