Review of The Ten Commandments (1956) by Anthony D — 28 Oct 2011
Powerful, moving, epic, amazing film, one which still stands the test of time even after 55 years. Charlton Heston at his very finest. Spiritually uplifting and deeply moving, with poignant themes about finding liberty through faith in God in the face of totalitarian oppression by the state.
Some of the doctrine was bothersome and the obviously green-screened special effects seem very obvious on Blu-Ray--but it's best to try to pay as little attention to that as possible. Also the entire first half of the film is based on just the first three chapters of Exodus and then a whole bunch of material from outside the Bible--so the film should not be considered authoritative by whatever means.
