Review of The Talented Mr. Ripley (1999) by Fiona B — 13 Oct 2012
Thankfully repeatedly played on PayTV and repeatedly watch by this helpless fan! The mise en scene reflects the lavish depth obtained from the 50s Italian styled movies that seem to gleam with gloss and richness. The perfect production combination . The subtle inclusion of the opera scene from Onegin and haunting Stabrt Mater, reflect the breadth of Anthony Minghella's intellegent direction. He uses a feather to bring home a point - not a hammer like so many directors who believe an audience needs hand-holding.
Layer upon layer of beautiful filmaking, it is like driving around an Italian coastal road - each scene breathtaking.
