There have been a lot of movies that take place in new york, but they rarely capture the essence of that city. pelham a heist movie in premise with a colorful offbeat cast of characters headed up by the king, Walther Matthau captures new york and it's inhabitants so magnificently, so truthfully.
I don't think any other , save for the films of scorses, allen and lumet, have even come close.
