Review of The Taking of Pelham One Two Three (1974) by Patrick K — 27 Apr 2009
Bad-assery abounds. Terrific cast, script tight as hell. Jaws and The Sting are great, but THIS is the reason I'd want Robert Shaw on my side in a bar-fight... The only very recent heist movie that can hold a candle to this is probably Spike Lee's "Inside Man.".
And, aparently, the main title music uses a 12-tone row...
Also, while I get frustrated by people who knee-jerkedly dump on remakes, I can't say I hold out much hope. John Travolta is no Robert Shaw. And the crispness and alluring extravagence of digital effects will probably not serve this movie well...
