Review of The Taking of Pelham One Two Three (1974) by Tomas T — 12 Feb 2010
The original The Taking of Pelham One Two Three shows what a good criminal thriller is all about. A bunch of criminals take a subway car hostage and demand ransom for the hostages, the only guestion being, who would hijack a metro car with no clear getaway route in sight?
Most of the time is spent with the criminals in the crammed metro car where each of the characters opens up. Each having their own motivations and personalities. Either you love or hate them, but all of em are guaranteed to make an impression on you, a sign of a good movie.
Main character being Walter Matthau's metro director character who is like an old cunnign fox acting as the first contact to the hijackers. His number one adversary Robert Shawn pulls an equally good role as the enigmatic and relentless criminal mastermind behind the hijacking. With good acting and interesting plot the movie movie is a winner and puts the D.Washingtons 2009 remake of Pelhamn 123 into shame. If you are about to see Pelhamn 123, make sure it is the 1974 version and you won't be dissapointed.
