Review of The Taking of Pelham One Two Three (1974) by Geoffrey M — 05 Jun 2009
Ran out and got this when I found out there was a remake coming out. Though I'm not a big Walter Matthau fan, I really liked him in this film . . slightly comedic performance with an obvious seriousness that's required to do the job of saving a train car full of hostages.
The star of this film is Robert Shaw, who I think gave as realistic a performance as you could hope for as the cold-hearted Blue, who has meticulously planned this incredible heist with the help of his crew.
The biggest surprise of this movie for me was the appearance of Jerry Stiller who, like Matthau, was able to bring his own clever brand of humor while focused on the task at hand. Great film, highly recommended.
