Review of The Swarm (1978) by Martin B — 04 Aug 2011
Why are there so much hatred of this excellent Eco Horror epic?
I don't get that. Here we have everything that would get a movie going;.
Billions of villains in the shape of evil and pissed of african bees. We get Richard Widmark as the constantly raving angry general, Michael Caine as the annoying hero entomologist, Richard Chamberlain in a weird beard, Henry Fonda as the smart guy in a wheelchair. And we get destruction of a flower festival, bees attacking a underground military base, bees attacking a train. bees attacking the entire city of Houston, bees attacking everything that moves as well as other things.
I watch the edited version that is well 2 1/2 hours and that's a bit long, but still, this can't ever get boring.
This is in fact a pinnacle in Eco Horror history.
No-One goes safe of the little flying killers:
Maureen Schuster: Attention! Attention! This is Miss Schuster. Please listen very carefully. A swarm of killer bees is coming this way.
