Review of The Sugarland Express (1974) by Kevin C — 05 May 2008
Spielberg's very first "art" film, in which he tackled the couple-on-the-lam genre. The results are undeniably clever. Goldie Hawn gives one of the best of the many great female performances in Spielberg's eventual career, but William Atherton, Michael Sacks and the always reliable Ben Johnson are equally good.
After seeing this film, Billy Wilder was moved to declare, "The director of that movie is the greatest young talent to come along in years". I couldn't agree more.
