Review of The Sugarland Express (1974) by Téo C — 26 Dec 2011
Even in his directorial debut, SS is already adept at visually telling a story. I did, however, feel myself wanting more character focus--although I'm not sure I can pinpoint the problem exactly. Maybe Spielberg was just excited to be doing so many action scenes or something :).
I was also surprised at how distracting the score was here--this isn't the John Williams we're used to. Much of the hook reminded me of The Twelve Days of Christmas--and I'm not making that up--I even saw it mentioned elsewhere. Hey, everyone finds their mojo at some point.
