Review of The Story of Qiu Ju (1992) by Jaeyoung L — 14 Sep 2009
Even though I saw this 17 years ago, I still enjoyed re viewing it. There are a number of conflicts here in this film about rural country people and modern urban life, the government bureaucracy and the justice system in China, about male vs.
female culture when it comes to conflict resolution and the choice of choosing your battles wisely vs. sticking to your principals or fighting for what is moral as opposed to what is just. I'd very much like to know what others thought of Qui Ju if they saw this film.
I believe Zhang Yimou presented all these di lemmas in the film brilliantly.
