Review of The Story of Qiu Ju (1992) by Paul J — 15 Mar 2009
Another tender, yet strong story about one woman's plight in Yimou's masterful character study. His continuous collaboration with Gong Li is inspirational - her performance stunning. The artful, yet simplistic approach to framing never ceases to amaze me.
There's poetry in the most mundane shots. What's the moral behind this complex little film? Perhaps it just helps us see ourselves a little more clearly.
