Review of The Stoning of Soraya M. (2009) by Geneviève C — 19 Apr 2010
Based on a true story. Men is a small village in Iran fabricated adultery charges to "get rid" of an inconvenient wife. Her greedy, abusive husband wanted to marry a 14 year-old, and he was too cheap to pay alimony or child support, so he made up charges about her sleeping with another man.
He had enough leverage with powerful men in the village to carry out his plot. Within a few hours, she was accused, tried, convicted, and stoned to death - all by men. The men involved should all be tried by a jury made up of at least 50% women, and executed for their crimes.
The execution should be just as barbaric - let them be stoned to death by the mothers, wives, daughters, and neighbours they have so wronged.
