Review of The Spanish Prisoner (1997) by Luke W — 13 Mar 2010
This is a very slow moving film that often has slightly pretentious dialogue, mostly coming from Ricky Jay's character. Its tone is quiet, and for a mystery/thriller, it seems to lay on the screen with little action or excitement to be had.
Steve Martin proves himself to be a great serious actor with his role, but everyone else is either bland, pompous or both. The plot twists are clever, but everything preceding has already bored you, so they aren't as affecting.
