Review of The Sound of Music (1965) by Brandon W — 02 Jan 2016
After seeing Lady Gaga's performance at the Oscars this year, I thought it would be a perfect time to revisit the Sound Of Music. I really liked this film as a kid but I can safely say that over the years, it's gotten better.
Watching it as an adult, I can now understand the politics and the reason why Captain Von Trapp has to escape from the Nazis and the songs are still as wonderful as ever. I also didn't quite understand the love triangle between the Baroness and Maria when I was a kid and why she had to run away from the Von Trapp household.
All the children have great moments and great chemistry with Maria but in my eyes, the one who stole the show was Captain Von Trapp. He played both the fast-talking no nonsense war general and the loveable father all in one.
From a Cinematography stand point, every single shot in this movie is damn near perfect. Overall, from a filmmaking point of view, and from a movie loving point of view, The Sound of Music is a Masterpiece!
