Review of The Snows of Kilimanjaro (1952) by Mackenzie S — 15 Oct 2007
Not as great as hailed. A strong performance by Gregory Peck, but the film adaption just does not rise up to the mediations induced by Hemingway's writing. Also, the fact that the ending is completely different from the original ruins the whole point of the story.
Like other features from this era set in exotic locations, the merging of studio main scenes with on-location backdrops raises sarcastic smiles.
