Review of The Snow Walker (2003) by Hal M — 05 May 2011
The Snow Walker takes you on an adventure through some beautiful canadian landscapes, where a pilot (Barry Pepper) and her passenger, a young inuit girl (Annabella Piugattuk) try to survive after a plane crash. The story is very simple, it doesn't try to be the smartest or most complex movie ever, it is just a beautiful adventure that captures you with great character relationships, amazing locations and immersive music.
In my opinion, Pepper is a very underrated actor who is capable of pulling very dramatic scenes. His development throughout the film is very believable and sympathetic, as we witness his transformation from a selfish pilot who is more concerned about making money than anything else, into a character who the audience genuineley cares about.
Annabella Piugattuk's acting is also very good in this. The role doesn't ask much, but she makes great use of what she is given. Besides her good acting, she also has a very attractive quality about her, and I don't mean it only in her pretty looks, but her character as a whole.
But the best part about the film is the scenery. The cinematography is amazingly beautiful and I could even call it romantic, even if there's no romance in it. You will not be able to take your eyes off the screen during the whole movie.
The Snow Walker has everything to make this a great adventure movie. If you like this kind of films, then you must definitely not miss this one.
