Review of The Silence of the Lambs (1991) by Johnathon W — 11 Nov 2013
First-rate thriller that set the standard for the serial killer genre, thanks to top-notch work from all involved. Anthony Hopkins is of course brilliant as Hannibal Lecter, creating one of the great movie monsters of all time, and is matched perfectly by Foster's Clarice Starling, who is both capable yet vulnerable as the young FBI agent.
They of course receive excellent support from their fellow actors, especially Ted Levine who is creepy perfection as Buffalo Bill, along with being the scariest character in the movie since he's based on actual killers (Lecter is a more fictional, albeit brilliant, creation).
Behind the camera, Demme keeps things starkly realistic while invoking Hitchcock for a film that will keep you on the edge of your seat till the final frame. Nevertheless, he delivers some nice, almost supernatural horror elements, particularly where Lecter is concerned (he truly is one of fiction's great monsters).
One of the best & scariest films of all time.
