Review of The Shop Around the Corner (1940) by Darryl J — 11 Oct 2008
It's been a long time since I've been so charmed by a movie. I loved every character in this. Such wonderful and distinct personalities. You don't know how bad I wanted to jump in the movie and work with these people.
Jimmy Stewart and Margaret Sullivan have so much chemistry even when they're not really supposed to.The script was so clever and hilarious. I laughed a lot. This could just have been a pleasant little romantic comedy but it had a dramatic undercurrent to it involving the boss of the store and Jimmy Stewart which spawned a supremely touching scene.
That's what pushed this over the edge from being just a film to something you remember afterwards.
