(1976) The Shootist.
WESTERN.
Directed by Don Siegel starring John Wayne in his last film appearance as J.B. Books who has just learned he has cancer from Doctor Hostetler(James Stewart). And he intends to live his life to be just as exciting as people had ever known him which also includes confronting some of his old rivals and cohorts. Although, his rivalries are used as a backdrop to the changing times as JB Brooks Western frontier days are being acknowledged to be over, his tough persona is still the same as anyone has ever seen him. Lauren Becall also stars as Bond Rogers who rents him one of the rooms as he converses with a rather young Ron Howard as Gillom Rogers who's heard stories about him. Viewers should take note that you're not really watching this movie for the plot as you're watching it for The Duke's hard exterior persona which is the same as his other films if not more.
3 out of 4 stars.
