Review of The Shining (1980) by Scottie T — 21 Apr 2015
The Shining. The opening scene shows you that this movie is going to be one of the best the world has ever seen. The score is horrific, Jack Nicholson's performance is one of the best performances I have ever seen from an actor, if not the best in my opinion.
The script is written so well and is filled with ambiguity. The cinemetography is so eerie in alot of the scenes, the one shot takes of danny riding his bike is riveting with suspense and my eyes cannot be taken off of the screen, even the whole movie, I never want to look away.
The direction is excellent and is definatley the most impressive direction I have ever seen. Kubrick just added so many great things, including great metaphors and subliminal messages about the apollo 11 mission to the moon.
This movie is a masterpeice and has been my favourite movie for about two months. I have watched it at least over 30 times and it never gets worse, it only gets better as I try to decipher hidden messages that make the movie all more interesting.
So, if you haven't seen the shining, I highly reccomend it if you are a confirmed, ghost story and horror film addict. You're going to love it.
