Review of The Shining (1980) by Diah H — 05 Jun 2014
A masterpiece in modern horror indeed. Stanley Kubrick's The Shining is phenomenal horror movie that triumphs into delivering thrills, a very eerie and creepy atmosphere, and a standout performance by Jack Nicholson as the insane and terrifying Jack Torrance.
Just recently I watched this at my friend's birthday party and it was excited to watch it again because I loved it so much and I wanted to show them on what they've been missing out on. At the end of it I loved it as always but my friends despised it saying it was "awful" and "not scary" and "the pacing and atmosphere was so bad.".
I just went ballistic, because it really is a true horror movie but instead they preferred a horror movie with cheap thrills, a recycled plot, and terrible performances by unknown actors who should stay unknown. The Shining is true horror at its best and just really builds up towards the good stuff thanks to the terrifically, horrifying atmosphere, smooth direction from the amazing Stanley Kubrick, and the top notch performance of Jack Nicholson who made a turn for the best. While not a true fan of the horror genre this is my favorite horror movie.
