OK, is it the finest movie I've ever seen, no. But it is a fine movie none the less. The photography, as with all guillermo movies was first rate! Atmospheric and delicate. The actors were first rate! Michael Shannon continues to shine, no matter the part he plays! the story itself is interesting as the 'lovers' are mute--they are outcasts and prisoners at once and so are drawn into an cross-species bond--yes, you'll find parallels between this and 'beauty and the Beast'.
Just go with it and lose yourself.
