Review of The Shallows (2016) by Alex L — 02 Sep 2016
Whilst surfing off a beautiful secluded beach, medical school drop out Nancy (Blake Lively) gets attacked by a great white shark. Stranded on a rock, 200 metres from shore with the shark prowling around her, Nancy's short swim back to safety turns into an epic battle of wills.
The former Gossip Girl practically puts in a one woman show carrying the whole movie by herself with a committed performance as the surfer fighting to survive.
This lone quest for survival, reminiscent of 127 Hours, combines enough tension, anticipation and action to make The Shallows a gripping 'stalk and swim' horror And might possibly be the best shark attack horror movie since Steven Spielberg's 1975 blockbuster, Jaws.
