Review of The Seventh Victim (1943) by Mike M — 23 Nov 2008
Not so much, in this case, an example of Val Lewton's ability to assemble B material so as to resemble art as of his capacity for taking a fair amount of nonsense and shaping it into something halfway watchable in the wee small hours of the morning.
.. the cult of devil worshippers, operating out of the back of a beauty salon, look to all intents and purposes like an only marginally more louche Rotary Club. Highly regarded by some (for more than just its striking shadowplay and downer ending), though - unlike Lewton's collaborations elsewhere, with Jacques Tourneur and Robert Wise - I can't quite see it myself.
