Review of The Seeker: The Dark Is Rising (2007) by Bryanbezter — 21 Apr 2020
Great things about the movie:
1. Good story and resolution.
2. Good character development: Will Stanton realized his potential, Merriman Lyon became a better listener, John Stanton overcame his guilt and loss.
3. The visual effects are not bad.
4. Good casting and acting: Christopher Eccleston does good job as The Rider; Alexander Ludwig, Ian McShane, and Frances Conroy also do good job.
The camera technique is sometimes uncomfortable (upside-down, rapid flashlights, dark scenes). The scope of the story is very small, the runtime is very short. There is not much action/fantasy/adventure scene.
Debatable holes:
1. How did Merriman know that the thing the Rider gave to Will was a snow globe?
2. The rider was said to be the representation of darkness, then he should have been able to attack Will when he was alone, unaware, and not in his full potential. He could also have attacked Will's family earlier.
3. Will found the 5th stone under water too easily.
4. The witch should have done more when she was at Will's house or when she was about to be defeated.
5. How could Tom have his memory, good & healthy body, and clothes when he was imprisoned for 14 years?
6. After darkness was defeated, people were already at their houses. They were supposed to be at Miss Greythorne's manor.
Message from the movie:
Understand our inner potential, be confident with ourselves, believe and understand that we are special, then do our best to fulfill our lives.
