Review of The Secret of NIMH (1982) by Ink S — 01 May 2010
I remember seeing this movie in bits and pieces as a kid. It always had the luck of playing whenever 'something better', as my parents would so kindly put it, was on.
... Yeah. Annoying wasn't it? I can't have been the only kid that would come across something while channel surfing that genuinly looked interesting just to have someone older show up and hijack the remote. pffft.
So anyways I was recently reminded of this movie and decided to finally sit down and watch it as a whole. I can honestly say this movie was an interesting watch, I'm glad I finally got to see it from start to end but I can't say that its a movie I would ever feel the need to rewatch. Maybe if I hadn't been interrupted half a million times as a kid it might have become one of those classics that I'd have grown a fond attachment to.
It had some genuinly interesting characters (I loved that owl), lovely animation and a good story. Overall the story was surprisingly... Dark? Serious? I forget the word, but whatever it is I liked it. Theres something in these older cartoons that the new ones just dont have anymore, and I miss it.
