Review of The Secret of Kells (2009) by Anya S — 21 Jun 2013
The Secret of Kells is a story about a 12 year old boy who is sent on a journey to find the legendary crystal and complete the mythical Book of Kells. Through the movie he is met with moments in which his quest is brought into question by not just his uncle but even himself. With the help of some friends he meets on the way including a little white cat and a magical little girl in the forest the story moves at a great pace and keeps the viewers interest.
While the plot is not that creative the animation is spectacular. I would just watch this movie to see the animation. Done in a beautiful 2D style where everything is on one plane which then plays with this concept of distortion that is also mirrored in the plot questioning what is reality and what is not. A well composed movie by all, watch this you will not regret it.
