Review of The Secret of Kells (2009) by Ryan V — 29 Mar 2015
Astounding and shockingly masterful in visual detail, Europe has brought along a conceptual amalgamation of Biblical elements and Irish poetry and folklore in a striking running time of 75 minutes, enough to push the boundaries of the imagination and the representation of the magically impossible with a haunting musical score on par with the best videogame score composers. The story treatment and the scarce plot explanation and character development were made intentionally and are most probably not meant to satisfy mainstream audiences and regular movie follower masses, because most of the explanation is left in the Medieval mysticism and the movie symbolisms throughout, which would be complicated for small children to digest. The animators brought us an extraordinary use of sharp animation and designs of truly talented artists; pay attention, because every frame is conquered by geometrical shapes and figures decorating this beauty-filled groundbreaking spectacle.
97/100.
