Review of The Searchers (1956) by Steven B — 10 Sep 2008
It deals with racism, with hatred between races. It's a shocking movie. Wayne's performance is outstanding. And the final scene is one the best I've ever seen, including the soundtrack that accompanies it: Wayne is left outside the house, the home, wandering forever, detached from any emotional life, with any emotional roots.
Yet, the character has been sort of redeemed, when Ethan took his last, important decision. Besides, it is one of the movies where the picture and the natural background (Monument Valley) gives an epic tone to the story.
