Review of The Searchers (1956) by Les E — 22 Nov 2008
Grand in every way. The direction by Ford is brilliant. He uses the scenery so well and the performance by Wayne fills the screen. The action scenes are used sparingly which enhances their effect. The closing sequence was the most poetic ever.
I felt a little uncomfortable with the subject matter of glorifying and justifying the slaughter of native peoples but that is overwhelmed by the great performances.
