Review of The Searchers (1956) by M D — 25 Feb 2009
A far cry from the greatest Western but a classic cowboys versus Indians none the less. A group sets off to rescue a white woman from the savagery of the Natives led by macho man John Wayne ablaze with some good, old fashioned prejudice.
The film boasts some great sweeping landscape photography accompanied with obvious studio sets that certainly cast an artificial feel. And while blatant discontinuity exist in both action and staging, the story gets told and ends in satisfactory defeat of the Comanche.
