Review of The Searchers (1956) by Nick D — 25 Jul 2009
Such a great movie. Movies like this make me proud to be an American. There is so much depth and emotion in this film, and even a hard, tough guy like Wayne is able to perfectly express that. Its politically incorrect, funny, serious, emotional, tough, brutal, easy-going, its everything that makes a movie great.
The most beautiful scene in the whole movie is the last one. As John Wayne (Ethan) is rabidly chasing little Debbie, who has been a wife of the Commanche War Chief 'Scar' for years now, whom Ethan considers no longer worthy to live, since she has been with the Commanches, the group he hates with a passion, Wayne instead picks her up from the ground with the softness and gentleness of a loving father who has just found a child who has run away from home.
Absolutely priceless.
