Review of The Searchers (1956) by Alec B — 19 Jul 2010
I guess this is the main western picture with John Wayne, and the main western at all. That of course is very respectful but not creative and interresting for me.
Sщ this is the story about two brave cowboys that fighting with indians. The main character is Ethan that camed back to his home and found his house burned by indians. And he has a friend Marty, whos sister was took by The Comanches. And they went to find her and to take back home.
So the story began very fast, it takes about 10-15 minutes and the main character were on the way to The Camanches. I didn't like it. And what about was that film? It was only about how did cowboys fight with indians on wild west? Its not very rich script for this type of movie. There was one episode that I realy liked. It is the moment when Debbie donesn't want to come back home, and she said 'They are my people now'. Its very nice way to show how the ideology of racism is stupid. And I expected a real american western music, but I didn't hear it. I wasn't interrested in this movie mhile I watched it. I didn't feel it, and I didn't expirienced it. But nobody knows is Debbie alive or not, till very middle of the picture. That's what o liked.
Actors were very good, I believed in their acting. Maybe its because John Wayne, but I think they all acted great!
Of course you cant not respect the movie from 1956 with Wayne, and ofcourse its very respectful to shoot the movie like this half a century ago. But it needs maybe better music, and better script...
