Review of The Searchers (1956) by Garrett C — 10 Sep 2011
One of the classic John Ford westerns. Wayne's performance as always is superb. Ford's directing skills here are as top notch with his beautiful long shots of Monument Valley. There's some great comedy in the character's of Old Mose and the Reverend.
Everything about the film is vastly different to westerns before it. I can't even think of a western off the top of my head that doesn't have a town shown in the film. The Searchers is a brilliant depiction of the vast and grand landscapes of the West that are hardly shown in other films in the genre.
The plot is also very different from other Westerns. I could write all day why this movie is so great, so how about instead of wasting my time and yours just watch the movie?
